Spoke too soon.......

Am writing this on the iPhone for the first time so no idea if it will work or not.

It would appear I spoke too soon on how well cycle 2 was going as I’m currently sat in isolation in Stoke Mandeville hospital. Bollocks.

My temperature went up last night so as is protocol I trekked across to A&E. I couldn’t help thinking this was my penance for the one glass of prosecco I’d enjoyed earlier in the day, my first since Christmas. Usual drill of bloods and IV antibiotics whilst waiting for the bloods to come back, except this time they weren’t fine. I have febrile neutropenia.

This is quite scary because I actually feel fine. I have a cold but nothing I can’t manage, but it is apparently this that has tipped me over the edge as my poor immune system is non-existent.

I need to stay in until my blood counts hit a certain level and I haven’t had a temperature for 24 hours. My blood counts today are the same as yesterday, so haven’t moved. Let’s see what tomorrow brings....,.,

Hello everyone! A quick message to wish you all a Merry Christmas with friends and family. We are up in the Lake District with friends and have had a lovely few days already. Walks, the odd run, too much food, a little bit of wine and some relaxing times are just what the doctor ordered. Apart from the alarmingly rapid departure of my hair, everything is fairly "normal" currently. I got quite upset about it yesterday as I watched it come out in handfuls (although again luckily down someone else's plug hole) with just a gentle wash. I have to say that I am glad that I had it cut shorter as it is distressing enough as it is, let alone if I had still had it long. I'm not sure how much longer it will be before I just give up and shave it all off - I don't want any bald patches, so once these start to appear I will do the deed. I must have a 7 year itch as it has been 7 years now since I've felt the need to share anything on a blog ( Briony ), but I'm pleased to report that Briony is fab! Sadly I have an unwelcome visitor in the guise of breast cancer. This vile little bugger has decided to take up residence chez Chaffin, completely uninvited and somewhat unexpectedly. How rude! It was rumoured to have been squatting a week or so ago and sadly on Thursday residency was confirmed. We're currently unsure as to what stage I have - further tests are required for that. What we do know is that it's aggressive and hormonal. Is this somewhat like the age old adage of dogs having similar personalities to their owners (only joking)?! So let me explain the Bognor or bust. We have booked a holiday with our great friends to celebrate Richard's 50th Birthday in July next year. A tale of 2 pairs of shoes.......

Day 1 of cycle 1 is complete. I no longer feel like a fraud - I am now a bona fide patient. My body is a battle ground and it does help to think of the chemo going round my body rounding it all up. I appreciate this might be slightly premature given the infusions only finished a few hours ago, but positive mental attitude and all that. I feel it is important to face cancer head on and show it who is boss. I am renowned for my footwear and decided that Louboutin ankle boots would fit the bill today in the absence of Dorothy's ruby slippers. I went from one extreme to the other when I switched out of these into my own furry fox slippers for sitting on the bed. Both got comments! The port held up beautifully and is healing well, given it only went in 3 days ago. Apparently the surgeon made a great job of it  and I have limited bruising. It seemed a little churlish to mention that it rubs when I run, so for once in my life I managed to keep my mouth shut. It's a bit weird the
